CD-ROM compatability

I have a HP Omnibook 300CTX. It only contains a floppy drive and I would like to get a cd-rom for it. Do I have to get the one that is spec'd out in the manual, or can I just use any various generic cd-rom?
 
I wasn't aware of that. So any Dell or an IBM,etc.. laptop cdrom will plug right into an older Omnibook like his?
