cd-rom and burner, what IDE's?

I'm puting in a burner alonh witha cd-rom and It recommends putting the burner on a channel by its self so you can do on the fly burns. The cabel wouldn't reach so i had to set it up so both the cd-rom and burner are on the same channel. Now it will burn about half of a cd, but then gets an error and quits. Are there any work arounds other than buying longer cables, or copy th ecd to hd and then burning?

Thanks,

Sean

Make sure DMA is enabled on both drives. I'm able to do 'on the fly' burning on the same channel with my Lite-On's.

I was about to say........I thought it was the other way around, the two CDroms on the same channel for best peformance.
