cd ripping problem with win2k

Hi I am having problems ripping audio CD's, I am trying to use Exact Audio Copy and also an unregistered version of AudioCatalyst but both don't want to recognize audio CD's. I think it could be a problem with not having ASPI drivers (I heard that Win2k doesn't support MSCDEX but mine doesn't seem to have ASPI either, or something like that) so I was wondering if anyone else has run into this problem and has fixed it before.

I have:
Windows 2000 Professional, SP3
Nvidia Nforce2 MB
Liteon 52x CD-ROM
RICOH 24x10x40x burner

ok I installed the adaptec ASPI driver but it didn't seem to work... in EAC I changed the interface from "native win32 for NT/2000" to "installed external ASPI interface". I restarted EAC to make the changes take effect, and the CD drives still come up empty. When going back into the Interfaces tab the radio button for the ASPI interface is greyed out. What could be wrong?
