The new sonys dvd players are really particular of what will play in their dvd players. Pretty much anything thats not an original anything won;t play in them

OR

If your using an LITEON burner its cause you need to update your firmware from their site.

CD-RW discs are actually more compatable with set-top DVD players than CD-R's. The surface layer of a CDRW is similar to a DVD. I use my rig as a TIVO box and once a week, I take all the shows I recorded automatically, dump them on a CDRW and watch them on my trusty Apex set top player. Hope this helps. Some players prefer a particular type or color of rewriteable format. Check the brand and color of the CD-R that worked, and buy some of those type of CD-R's for burning your VCD's. Some players like blue, some like silver, some will only take CD-RW, some will take all colors of CD-R, etc.

Sony DVD player sucks,
I heard some people complaining about it even doesn't play original legal DVD well.
