CD-R Sub-Channel Burning?

What's the lowdown on being able to record sub-channel stuff? I have a Ricoh 6/4 and apparently can't do this mode, and I have read that some burners are coming out with the feature disabled.

Anybody have the scoop?

God, we look a lot alike.

Apparently some cdrom/cdrw/dvd's read subchannels OK and some don't. And the same in the writing department for burners. It seems to be important if you're trying to back up a cd with a certain class of copy protection.

My Plextor upgraded to 1.07 firmware is listed to be capable of most of the tricks. Check out http://www.elby.de/CloneCD/english/index.htm
for a list of cdroms and burners and their capabilities.

Strange my old Ricoh 4x4x24 upgraded to a 6x4x32 works fine in CloneCd, so your Ricoh drive should work if you get the latest drivers.

It is only important that the drive reading the CD be able to read sub-channel data, all burners will burn the resulting data since it is no longer "sub-channel". Any CD-ROM/Burner/DVD that will read sub-channel data is all that's necessary to make a successful back-up of a CD that uses sub-channel data in it's copy protectiomn routine.
