CD-R burns fine w/ AC power, not with Battery?

Hi All,
I've had hardware problems burning a CD lately. I've made multiple attempts and used different software and CD-Rs, but my Matshita UJDA740 made those CDROM clicking noises, spooled up and down, clicked and so on. Both softare burning programs I used reported hardware problems. Weird. It's 5 months old.
And then I plug the laptop in, and now with AC power it burned two CDs alright.

Does that make any sense? Not a lot to me. Anybody any experience with that?

Can you manually turn down the burning speed (Try maybe 16x or 24x speed instead of 52x)? If so, give that a shot and see if it fixes the problems. Sometimes burning CD's right on the ragged edge can make small things (being plugged in vs battery power) cause discs to not finish the burn process correctly. Also you might want to try burning with the built-in Drag & Drop with windows xp (assuming you're using windows). This will be a good way to bypass any possible problems being caused by the burning programs themselves. Give it a shot and let us know if it doesn't help you out.
