I went to some computer retail stores and I have seen several brands of CD-R than CD-RW so why it is better than CD-RW? I don't burn CD that often but used CD-RW mostly.

CD-R is not erasable. CD-RW is erasable.

If you have data or files you intend to keep indefinately on a disk then use CD-R.

If you want to be able to reuse (as in erase then use again) the disk for other data then use CD-RW.

I use CDR's mainly for Audio CD's and CD-RW's for misc files that I want to back up for future use.

CDR's are cheaper, able to Burn faster, in most Cases last longer and can be played/read on more devices (ie Portable Players, Older CDROMs)....CDRW's are resuable...Also I have yet to see a mini CDRW Disc (3") although I suspect they may be out there.

Edit= Forgot...CDR's are available in larger format's, hence can more Data can be burned on them.

Tons of people burn CDR's, especially for MP3's, and that's why you see so many of them for sale. CDRW's can be used over and over for quite a while, so there's not as much demand/customers.

I thank you all people for wonderful informations. I think I will stick with CDRW for now to back up all data that I want to save. CDR is nice but too risk if I make a mistake (I have done that b4 ) and there is no way to remove it.

be careful about backing up data that you want to keep for a long time on CDRW. from what i hear, the data doesn't remain on the disk for a "long" time.

cdr is so cheap (usually can pick up 50 for <$5 with sales) that, to me anyway, there are not many reasons to use a cdrw. 1 cdrw disk came with my writer almost 4 years ago. every so often i put some video i encoded from a digital recorder on there and test to see how it looks on my dvd player/tv. but thats the only one i have ever used.
