i don't know who the RIAA think they are fooling. with prices like they are charging for their cd's i dont know who would buy them.

Today i went into Sam Goody to buy a cd that is about 2 years old, and was SHOCKED to see the price set at $19.99!!! this is highway robbery, and this weekend i was at FYE and saw the clean version of the cd for at least 16.99 ( i dont remember the exact price )

this is bullshit, and i'll be damned if im going to buy these cd's! :|

I never buy CDs from Sam Goody or FYE their prices are outrageous. I usually get my CDs at Best Buy, frys, or costco.

whoa, where are you shopping at, must be the mall stores. those places always overcharge. try deepdiscountcd.com and bathe in cheap CD goodness.

i thought the record labels set the prices, not the RIAA ? i know that labels like "Fat Wreck" and "Dischord" actually have it printed on the cd to not charge more than $10 or $12.

if you're buying CDs at sam goody you're just throwing money away.

they charge $20 a CD and $30 for a DVD. $30! when wherehouse music had their final going out of business sale they put their new DVDs on sale... $22 for a DVD i could get at best buy or fry's for $20 with no sale

only if you're comparing prices at different places. the places that charge $20 for a CD are charging $30 for a DVD.

Sam Goody is always more expensive than the others, or atleast it seems like it, but I have watched the prices of cds go up everywhere else too, best buy included. Cd prices at $13+ are the things that are detering me from buying, I'd like to own the cd, but for that kind of money I'll just listen to the radio. I do however buy for 9.99 when cds are first released - below $10 and I have a hard time passing them up.

Someone explain to me why people still buy from those music stores when they can easily get the same selection and cheaper price at Best Buy or a dept. store.

Who the hell shops at Sam Goody? How the hell do these places stay in business???

Circuit City or Best Buy the first week of a CD release, typically $9.99 or lower (pricematch people, CC gives 10% off)...

LET SAM GOODY GO OUT OF BUSINESS.

the RIAA is the record labels. its an association of record labels. if i'm not mistaken, it's mostly the big 5 and their subsidiaries. many punk record labels are NOT members of the RIAA, including the two you mentioned as well as Hellcat and Hopeless/Sub City. Text

as for the original poster, well, your problem is, of course, sam goody. i haven't set foot in one for years. i suggest you take your $25 gift cert, buy your 1 cd, and then forget about that place.

Thanks for the list, i didnt' know that. i'm surprised to see "Vagrant" on that, i thought they were kind of small.

Buy online.

Buy used.

Buy from a music club. Columbia House is running ridiculous deals now, you can get CD's @ $3.60 each (or even less) if you have a little patience.

www.alldirect.com is my favorite for CD's. Cheapest I've found anywhere on most stuff. I will never buy a CD from Sam Goody. FYE at least has some good deals occasionally, I bought Thin Red Line for 10 bucks there, and a Beatles CD for 12 (Beatles are NEVER on sale!). But BB, used, or alldirect are my usual haunts. Used is the greatest because the record companies get NONE of the money! (neither do the artists, of course)
