CD PLAYER RECOGNIZED, BUT DOES'NT RECOGNIZE CD'S......HELP PLEASE!!

Hello

I loaded all my software in my system last night, downloaded windows updates, and played some music. Today I had a few programs to load, but neither my cd or burner recognizes that anything is in tray. They recognize the cd's in safe mode just not normal mode. This has to be something small, but I sure would appreciate your help.
