Hello,

I'm curious. Is the CD player headphone jack independent from the sound card?
I haven't opened up the case, yet. But I"m just curious if you can still hear sounds from a music CD if the CD player is not connected to the sound card.

Thanks!

Yes, back before sound cards were common, the CD-ROM drives came with a DOS utility to play audio CD's and the only way to listen was thru the headphone jack on the front.
. They are usually live at all times, but sometimes if you plug hedphones in it will disable the rear audio out. header.

Thanks for the replies! It's actually my grampa's system. I don't have access to his computer right now, so I'm just trying to find out before hand..

Plus, many CD-ROM drives had Play buttons, so apart from getting power from the computers PSU, they were eseential and independant "discman" type device.

Some people have asked if you can get all sound to go through the CD-ROM headphone port, as if you are using as a headphone port for the whole system....that's a big NO...
