CD Player doesn't recognize music cds

I recently upgraded from 98SE to XP Pro. My burner works fine, except that when I try to listen to any music cd using the CD Player included with Windows, I get a message that the cd is a data cd and not a music cd. I can listen to the cd using Windows Media Player or Winamp, so the drive is working. Any suggestions as to what may be causing the problem?

By the way, I want to use CD Player so that I can listen using headphones connected directly to the drive rather than having to unplug my speakers. This worked when 98SE was the os.

Thanks

Tim

Actually, I am using the on-board sound since my pci soundcard was having some troubles. I made that switch prior to the os upgrade and I could listen to the cds using the headphone jack on the drive.

I'm at work right now, so I will take a look this evening to see where the connection is made. However, as I said, I am not having any trouble listening to the cd through the sound card, only through CD Player and the headphone jack on the drive.

Thanks

Tim
