What kind do you have and what brand do you wish you had bought instead. What are the good things and bad things about the one you own. If you have a dvd mega changer, let me know about that as well.

I am looking at getting a 300-400 disc one. I dont care about mp3 playing on them and would rather not have it since the ones i have seen are cheaper with out it.

Also, what do you use to control the changer? Can they play stand alone or do they need a receiver? Im asking that because my parents may give me theirs and i would much rather have it than any receiver that i can afford.

Thanks.

I have a Sony Mini HiFi system with a 60 Disc CD Changer. Its like a bookshelf unit that does all in 1. Mine you can change the disc using the remote or the analog dial on the reciever to change discs.

Most of the stand alone CD Changers require some kind of Receiver, unless they have a headphone jack then you can play CDs through that. Just becareful when you buy a mega changer that you don't forget what CD's you've got in there. I forgot which CDs I have in my 60 disc changer and its hard to find a specific CD.

Sony makes some really nice CD players. Pretty decent too, 400 Disc capacity and it plays Mp3s as well.

Yeah, i was looking at Sony's 300 disc changer. Keyboard input so that is good. Although one that reads cd text would be better. ( I make copies of all my cds since i had over 40 stolen after i was in a car accident)

thx for the input.

My brother has 2 of the 400-disc Sony ones and is happy with them. Note that some Sony models now play MP3s so you could put 5 - 6 high bitrate CDs per disc and fit 2,000 albums in one changer.

I want to be able to clone my collection to take to the office as well as use it around the house so I'm setting up a music server PC instead -- it was going to be 234 - 320 bps MP3s but now I'm thinking of using lossless FLAC encoding instead. True CD quality and still about 600 CDs per 200 GB hard drive.

I believe that sony one can read CD Text as well, My 60 Disc changer has a keyboard input but it also reads the CD Text. The Keyboard input is probably for CD Albums that you buy that don't have text written on the CD.

Have any of you had to repair them or service them? Have you heard of anyone who has? If you have, how much did it cost and what was the part that broke?
