Cd labels bad for cds or cd-rom drive?

I just got some of my first Fujifilm cds and I noticed a warning to NOT use cd labels on them. Will the labels damage the cds? Or just affect the balance..as in rotation of the cd in the cd-drive, possibly damaging it? Does anyone have problems using cd lablels?

You should use labels only on totaly blank CD`s,
without any text on them, and you shuold put them
on with special press devices that are made for that.

Labels, if not applied correctly, can cause the CD to lose balance, and in a high speed CD reader, this can cause the CD to break into lots and lots of very tiny pieces, ruining both the disc and drive.

Happened to a friend of mine once, the whole reader looked like someone put a firecracker in there, all the mechanics were badly damaged.

Of course this can happen to normal CD's as well, but labels dont exactly make things better.

For audio CDs it is completely fine UNLESS you use it in anything with a multiCD cartridge or with a motorised slot load CD player, reasons being that the label will make the CD out of specification and can jam anything designed to carry a CD.

This is especially the case for car CD changers. If you have a CD in there with an attached label and it gets stuck the service centres will not honor that under warranty EVEN if there is something legitimately wrong with the CD changer.

Cheers

I've been putting printed cd labels on cds I've burned for the last couple of years and I've never encountered any problems. I do however use a proper cd labeling kit.

You should be safe as long as you use a proper cd label kit. I've seen some very impressive looking labels, so good that unless you had another original cd next to it or inspected it very closely, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
