CD Image Error

hey guys, new here at AnandTech, hope you guys can help me.

ive got myself a problem which NOONE knows how to fix. i took my empire earth cd and made an image of it so that i can have a backup of it on my computer and also use it as a virtual cd-rom instead of having it use the cd since it takes a longer time to load using the cd. well, i got this error when it gets to around 5% or 6% in the installation off the cd image:
Component transfer error
Component: Main Component
File Group: Data
File: G:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

when i got this error, i tried the same thing with another game and got a similiar error. each games i made the image to my second hard drive and when i made them to the hard drive windows is on, i didnt get any errors, they installed and worked perfect, by the way, im on windows 2000. what i have done to fix the problem is format the windows hard drive, format my second harddrive, checked for errors on both drives, and bought a new second 40 gb hard drive and replaced my other one. only thing i can think of is that this HD is bad or somehow my controller card and the way the IDE cables are placed come into play.

any help would be GREAT!

p.s excuse the sloppy typing but i was in a rush.

yeah, thats what i would think, but it worked before. you see, before i formatted because of the errors i get for the games, i had to format because of something else and it worked perfect before that but now, it doesn't work. heres a little timeline:
1.got 1.4 athlon, new mobo, new ram, new case, new geforce 2.
2. put original 2 HDs, promise controller card, ethernet, new cpu, new mobo, new ram, and new geforce into new case.
3. turned on, formatted hard drive with windows.
4. format second hard drive.
5. make another image, get errors.
6. make image onto hard drive with windows, works perfect.
7. format both hard drives and reinstall windows.
8. make another image onto second HD, get same error.
9. buy new 40gb hard drive, replace old 40 gb hard drive and use with originial windows hard drive (15 gb)
10. make another image
11. get same error
12. post here, hoping i can get an answer

😀 hope that helped for anyone whos confused
