I have a cd that I burnt, with some programs, and data archived on it, and the other day i went to use it, and found it now has holes in the data surface, you know the reflective layer on back, is there any chance I might be able to recover some of the data from it, maybe the fat???
The center CentiMeter of it is undamged, isn't there a section of, like what is on the disc, or a table of contents?
If I could recover just a listing of what was there, I'll be able to find it all other places.

<Spread butt cheeks>

I believe all CDs have a TOC or table of contents. It is normally located around the inner portion of the disc. If this area is undamaged, you should be able to see the contents. If any of the data itself is damaged, you will get a read error when you try to access it.

It will only have a TOC if you created one when you burned it. Otherwise it just reads what files it finds on the disc. If there are any files in-line that are not touchd you should be able to get them. But, if the disc is completely unbalanced by the holes you are SOL.

I actully considered collecting all of those AOL discs they keep sending me, making coasters out of them and giving them out to friends for a chuckle.

I never thought of that! Next time I go skeet shooting I'm going to take some with me and see how they do!

it'll be tricky to launch them, and you'd hafta aim off center, or use large shot to make sure each one shatters...
