I have a Samsung SD-604 CD\DVD ROM. It's skipping all CD's I put in it. Is there a way I could go about fixing this without having to take my system apart?

I have an AOpen 24x10x40 drive that will play them without skipping, but the sound won't go to my speakers. The only way I can hear it is to plug headphones directly into the drive.

If the Samsung drive can't be fixed without taking stuff apart, is there a way I can temporarily make the AOpen (E the default CD-ROM or something so sound will come through to my speakers?

Oh yeah, if you're wondering about my sound card, it's a crappy CTX card or something that is part of the Asus A7V333 mobo. My mic doesn't work with it either. I'm looking to get a new one for $75 or less. Any suggestions? I listen to CD's and mp3's and play FPS games.

Not sure why you cannot plau Audio CD's off the your DVD drive but...the reason you cannot hear sound off your CD-RW is probably because it does not have an internal audio cable running from the drive to a connector on the soundcard.

You will need to get this cable in order for this to work. If this cable is present then it might be that in audio properties, the AUX is muted (AUX is generally what is used for audio sound for a 2nd CD Drive). Try playing the Audio CD's with Windows Media Player 7 as a last resort as this generally plays even if that cable is not present.

Depending on how basic your soundcard is, it might not actually support Audio input from more than 1 cd drive.
