CD/DVD file cataloging software

I'm using XP. I archive job files onto CDs and DVDs, and have literally hundreds of disks that have to be cataloged. I currently use an old file cataloging program that is no longer being maintained or updated (the company has disappeared), and I'd like to find a better, faster program.

Ideally, I'd like to find a program with a really good search capability, similar to XP's -- the ability to search for a filename by typing in a just a few characters, without bothering with wildcard characters (such as asterisks).

And the ability to print out a CD cover/insert with a list of filenames would be a plus.

It does NOT need to be freeware. I'd be happy to pay for a program that's supported and occasionally updated.

I know there are dozens, if not hundreds, of such programs. But I know from experience that downloading, installing, and trying out demo versions could take weeks, and I was hoping for specific suggestions so I could at least narrow down the list of programs I want to try.

And if anyone knows if it's possible to convert my current file catalog database (it's a .cdt file, whatever that is) to something a new program might read, I'd love to know about it. Or do all of these programs have proprietary database formats that can't be converted?

Thanks for any suggestions.

i use cd bank cataloguer
works pretty well. and yes theres really no point trying to "label" dvds and spindles
doing that makes anything in a spindle/binder rather lost. running a search in cd bank is easy.

i just number the discs by spindle/spindle disc number when add them to the index in the program.

i do want to know if theres an open source version of software that can import cd bank catalogers database as a backup option though..

cd bank does export to xml and exchange and html or somethin now that i look at it, i've never tried those features though

the only thing i found annoying about cd bank is when it tries to add thumbnail previews of pics to the database file. its a good feature if you need it. but it bloats the db file fast, and makes exporting the db file for archive take much longer, but there is an option to the turn it off luckily

Thanks for your response. I checked into CD Bank, but it looks like the developer is no longer in business. I found this thread about it:

This is the same thing that happened with my current catalog software -- Pirem CD Cataloguer. Developer disappeared a few years ago. What's really sad is that I had neglected to download the last build of the program, so I don't even have the most recent version. And I can't find it anywhere -- all of the shareware sites link to the old pirem.com site, which is kaput.

Anyway, CD Bank is not an option for me. I need something current, with a developer that's still supporting it. I realize that can change at any moment, but all I can do is make sure they're at least still in business when I buy the software!

yea its a pain. but open source projects also get abandoned over time i've found. i used juice for podcast rss and the people doing that just stopped putting out fixes for instance. i tried one free one a while back and it sucked, i'm sure there are more but i've never looked that hard. plus i need an import function meh

This is probably not exactly what you're looking for but since there are hardly any suggestions i figured i'd throw this out.

CD Trustee was made for cataloging music CD collections but you can catalog any file type with it. I have no idea if it works with DVDs though. You can D/L & try it out for free if you want.
