CD/DVD Drives take forever to Start Sometimes

If I start my computer with a CD or DVD in the drive, I can pretty much access it right away after the computer loads up. However, if I insert a CD or DVD after the computer loads or I take one out and put a new one in, nothing happens for about 5 or so minutes. I go into "Manage" on "My Computer" and click on the "Disk Management" to see what may be going on and it just has a blank space and the words "Connecting to Logical Disk Manager Service" at the bottom in the status bar. Like I said, after about 5 minutes, it will show all the disks and the drive will become active like nothing is wrong... that is until I take it out and put a new one in. Then its back to the 5-10 minute wait. Anyone have any ideas on this one? Thanks.

Check that you got the master/slave settings correct.

Are you sure its 5 minutes ??I know it may seem so.

Optical drives are slow to get going.
Sometimes I take the disk out and reinsert.

Yes...and you may want to try reseating the cables too.

Yeah, it really is 5 minutes. Its so wierd. I even bought a new drive and it still does it. I tried both making it a slave and a master and making it the obly drive on the cable. Nothing changes anything. Very strange...
