Hey, first off I'd like to say that I wasn't sure whether to put this in Operating Systems or Computer Help. If this is in the wrong place then I'm sorry :frown: .
Ok so I have a brand new computer and Vista 64 bit Home Premium OEM on a DVD rom. I have 2 dvd/cd drives, I'm not sure on their exact models, but one is made by NEC and the other by ASUS.
When I use the NEC drive to install Vista it gets started and gets to a point where it says that cd drive drivers are needed. After doing some googling I saw that Vista has some problems with NEC drives, but as of yet, I cannot find a solution.
Here's a link where someone else had the same problem in case you need any clarification of the error:
http://www.vistaheads.com/foru...ers-install-error.html
Now when I use my Asus drive, it'll spend a long time trying to boot it (basically it looks like its crashed on the POST screen) and then eventually tells the CD file/information is corrupted and some error (I will find/write down the specific error if needed). I know this isn't true since the NEC drive could boot the vista setup all right. My guess is that the Asus drive can't read the particular format (I know there's such things as Dual Layer DVD's and +/- dvd's), although I'm also somewhat sure that this isn't the problem.
Any ideas on what I should/can do or what the problem is? Thanks in advance to all who help/contribute =)!
If there's any more info you need let me know, also if you could tell me where/how I can identify the particular model of the cd/dvd drive that would be great too since that would probably help a lot!
