Has anyone tried any of the systems used to repair scratches on disks. Are they any good.? Which ones do you recommend.

I haven't had to use any since my discs are either usable or destroyed, but my friend uses these kits on his Xbox DVDs all the time and he says they work even against carpet induced scratches. All scratches on discs can usually be repaired as long as they aren't deep enough to touch the data layer.

DiskDoctor or GameDoctor or whatever it's called will take light surface scratches out of the CD...it does NOT remove gouges or cracks.

I use arm&hammer baking soda toothpaste. Rub it in in a circular manner with a little pressure for a few minutes, wash the disc then immediately coppy the disc with Nero. Sometimes Nero has to reread the area for a bit to get all the data but my success rate is 100% so far, HTH :)

I have successfully used toothpaste to recover data too ...

take any non gel toothpaste, and polish the scratched cd for a LONG time... in a circular motion. Wash and it always runs...

I have used Disc Doctor with great success. I had several damaged PS2 CDs/DVDs. One of them was in my PS2 when someone else knocked it over leaving some really bad scratches. Disc Doctor managed to remove almost all of the scratches except the largest ones. Good product.

Skip Doctor works great for me. It takes a lot of cranking for each disc - it turns the disc really slowly, but that means that it does a lot of work on each part of the disc. One complaint is that it comes with a really little bottle of the repair solution, whatever it is actually made of.

That repair solution is nothing but distilled water. You can buy a large bottle of it in any drug store for very little.
