I have 2 drives installed the HP9100i and the Pioneer 16x DVD
What really bugs is that the pioneer is warmer than the HP and it as loud as a vacuum cleaner. The Hp is so quiet i didn't even expect it. Why is the Pioneer That loud? Because the disc spinns that fast? Probaly, but it's very loud i think they should have shielded the sound better.

Unfortunately you are not the only one to complain about the Pioneer 16x DVD drives. There were a slew of comments about the drive when it first hit the shelves, and a lot of members here voiced their opinions about it.

CAn you give a link to the guys that were complaining about the Pioneer DVD drive and some statistics from Sisoft drive benchmark

HP 2655 Drive index
14500 RPM
DVD Pioneer 4000 Dirve index
22000 RPM
If the RPM's difference is 50% but the drive sounds horrible 300% louder at least!
