cd/dvd audio troubles

when i have an audio cd in my cdrw drive it makes the audio makes this poping noise when i switch tacks (electronic sound, not mechanical). When i play cd's in my dvd drive i cant even listen to them. they have this amplified rice krispy effect going on. same thing for dvds in that drive, and the video is kind of jittery. i've never had problems before. think it might be those round cables i put in? interfearence?

i think i might have just figured this out. i was intially thinking it must be an irq conflict but i just got some new ide cables which might be the culprit.
