cd drive won't close, please help

Whenever I try to close my cd-rw drive it just pops right back out, regardless of whether there is a disk in the drive or not. Because the drive is of a generic brand, I suspect the problem may be hardware related but has anyone else had any experience with this problem?

my only idea is trying to check if maybe the eject botom is stock, or trying to use eject command from windows, if you are careless about it try to hold it in for 5 segs and then release it, or just get a new one, there are cheap and good CD and even DVD burners for under 65.

Thanks for the post, I tried holding the drive shut but that doesn't seem to be working. Also, it randomly works sometimes when I start up the computer, maybe 1 out of 10 times it is able to read and write flawlessly. I'll probably start looking for a new drive.

Check for firmware upgrades for it...some companies have them, some don't. If you can't find any, then just get a drive. Newegg has them at good prices. Good luck
