Problem:
I recently purchased the game Shogun: Total War. It is a 2 CD game. I can access the first CD properly, but cannot access the 2nd CD. It takes more time than usual for the CD drive to detect the presence of the CD. Sometimes the CD is detected properly in Explorer, once it was detected as an "Audio CD", but most of the times the CD does not get detected.
I tried accessing the same CD in some of my friend's computers, and it worked perfectly. When the CD is detected, and I try to copy files from it to my hard drive, it gives me a error message "Cannot read from device...blah blah blah".
All of my other CD's get detected, but this one does not seem to work.
This CD works perfectly in other computers I tried it out in.
My Analysis/Observation:
When I did manage to access the CD, I checked its size. Explorer reported as "691 MB"???
I do not have any 16 bit drivers loaded.
I tried adjusting the read-ahead speed for the CD drive.
The CD drive LED blinks over 15 times before stopping. Sometimes it stays that way, but sometimes it comes on again and stays on for almost a minute before going off. This is when the CD gets detected.
I also cleaned my CD Drive
My hardware setup:
A Celeron 400 with 128 megs of Ram and 10 gig hard disk space. Creative 3d blaster TNT2 Ultra with 32 megs of RAM. The rest of the the setup is the usual stuff.
CD Drive: Creative Infra 3600 (the one that comes with a remote). It's a 24X drive. (I tested this CD on a creative CD drive, but another model)
What next?
I have not been able to figure out where the problem might lie.
1. The CD Drive
But other CD's, including the other CD that came with the game, work fine.
2. The CD
But this CD works well in other PC's
Does this have something to do with the size of the CD?
I dont understand what is happening.
I need help...I am dying to play this game.
