My CD Drive will no longer work, I get the yellow exclamation in device manager & this error: "windows cannot load the device drivers for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)"

I uninstalled the device reboot & windows will find and load the driver and then it says they may be a problem with the hardware ?? and I still have the "windows cannot load the device drivers for this hardware. the driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39)" error.

What else should I try? The Drive worked fine before (the drive is an NEC 1300A)

TIA for the help

Have you tried another cd in the system, or tried that cd in another system.

This is the best way to see where the problem lies.
