cd drive problem

when i put in a cd, my system slows to a crawl until i take it out, i cant even get anything off the cd. please help me
 
i did backup my drive for a reformat a few days ago... ~50 cds burned within a few hours.

the weird thing though is that it stoped working after i reformatted. sometimes when i do weird things like switch to a generic cd drive, then back, it will work, but not for very long
