CD drive not recognized

My CD burner is suddenly not showing up in my computer. I have a inspiron E1505 and i went under administrative tools, under disk management, only HDD is found...no optical drive.

The model of the drive is HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244

I put in a CD, the drive spins up and light flashes but nothing happens.

I have already reset defaults in BIOS

Under device manager it has a yellow exclamation mark. I uninstalled it, restarted, windows says it found new hardware...i let it install...go under my computer...nothing.

I am unable to find any drivers for this drive, i figured windows would have them since it should be plug and play.

What else can i do, short of reformating...

Thank you for any help on this issue.

Are you using the Dell install of Windows or did you write over it with a different version?

If you replaced the Dell Windows you may be missing the motherboard / chipset drivers.
