CD devices "Inaccessable"

I am having some trouble with a pair of Creative drives, one is a DVD (Dxr3 5xDVD player), the other a CD-R (8432 CD-RW Blaster). I can play music CD's, but with any other type of CD I get an error saying the "Drive is inaccessable." They both work perfectly fine in Safe-mode, I reinstalled the latest drivers for my motherboard and Creative hardware, and I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for everything related to the Drives and IDE ports. The only thing left that I can think of is formatting and starting fresh.

I recently installed a network, which seems to coincide with my drives not working (they were working fine after installing the firewall/anti-virus software that came with the Linksys router, and I hadn't checked them since until yesterday). I Checked my administration profile and sharing with the drives, and nothing looks out of the ordinary.

Anyone know what gives, and how it can be fixed?

Thanks

Well it is certainly software since they work in safe mode.

Try completely removing the IDE drivers for your mobo chipset and letting the default windows ones install.

What chipset is it?

I uninstalled and let the OS automatically set them up on my next boot, and I still can't access the drives without going in through safe-mode. And Win2k won't let me install programs under safe-mode so I'm outta luck.

Anyone have any ideas? If not I'm gonna have to format.

I had to update the firmware on my old DVD RAM Creative drive to get it working in Win2K. It is a Toshiba rebadge. Had to flash my Toshiba DVD RAM as well. Afterwards all worked fine.

Well the thing is it's been working perfectly under win2k for over 2 years now. I know it isn't a hardware problem, and the only recent change i've made was the network. I just can't seem to figure out any type of connection between installing a network and CD drives suddenly not working.
