CD cases: throw them out?

I have about 150 CD cases from CD's I have had since the early 90's. I keep all my CD's in a binder, and the cases just take up racks and racks of space.

Do I really need to keep these suckers? I mean, other than the little "pamphlets" and such (which I don't really care about, unless one day they will be worth something, which I doubt) --- can't I just trash em?

Why would you keep them?

I just rip mine to my computer, put the CDs back in the jewel cases and into a storage box, then forget about them. Leaves me a lot more storage space in my apartment. 🙂

How did you wipe your ass this morning? Did you make a thread about it or just skip it?

When your next of kin sells your cd collection after your demise, having the cd cases will make them easier to sell. Also, some people use cd cases for storage because you can see the title without having to open anything (thus faster access). Empty cases sell for a few cents each, you may be able to sell them in bulk to someone who uses them. This "reuse" is more environmentally friendly than recycling or landfills, the trick is locating the rare person who will use them.

I replaced all of my CD and DVD cases with sleeves. My collection now takes up ~1/10 of the space that it used to.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I invested in quality sleeves that hold all the original pamphlets and album art, even for the PITA cardboard DVD cases.

just get rid of them, 10 years from now are you going to need to read anything in the pamphlet that isnt already available on the internet?

yeah but I just wanna get rid of them. Will the cases be worth a lot in 10-15 years? No right?

Not unless the price of polystyrene skyrockets.

(At least, I think that CD cases are made of polystyrene. They screech when scratched, and just have the feel and sound of polystyrene.)

I keep all of my cases and cover art in a dedicated cabinet. The CD's reside either in a 200 CD changer or on spindles(the ones that won't fit in the changer because it has reached its max capacity).
