CD burns at 4x, but not at 6x....whats up?

im using a cendyne 6x4x32x burner, and a memorex spindel 700m, rated at 24x.....but why wont they burn at 6x???
also, im using nero 5, and the message is "Illegal speed for this medium" (something like that)...
 
Yeah, me neither, but apperntly so....and it doens't work! Is it my disk or my burner, anyone else had a problem with this?
