CD Burning

I'm thinking of getting a cd burner. I was wondering if everyone could kind of give me some suggestions on which burner to get. I'm looking for a reliable one, preferably IDE, and hopefully 200 or less. I heard Plextor was good, but expensive, but I'm sure there are many other people more knowledgable than me.

The burner will mainly be for burning music cds and erm... "backup" copies of programs.

Plextor or Yamaha are the best, some will disagree but that is what I will tell you!

you cant go wrong with a plextor

using a 12/10/32 with no problems in my Athlon 800 machine

Plextor's the best.
I've been told Yamaha is 2nd best, and so far my experience with it has given me no reason to doubt it.

I love my 8x8x24 yamaha and I got it for less than $200 at a retail/chain store (like CompUSA or a place like that, but a canadian one)

The plextors are the best, if you don't mind paying the extra price for them. If you think you'll do alot of burning the Plextor may be worth it. Peronsally I prefer the price point on the Yamaha.

I also have the 8x8x24 Yamaha. Could not justify the Plextors price....but I do use them for my main CDrom on my SCSI system. Have Yet to burn a bad disk with this set up

I love it to, I had trouble justifying the plextor's price to.
Plextor 8x4: $369
Plextor 12x10: $479
Yamaha 8x8: $295
(those are canadian prices, US are about 2/3s)


I've only done 8 CDRs and 2 CDRWs with my Yamaha (using the Pioneer 104S as my other CD Drive) as I haven't had it very long, but they all worked out fine. I didn't play quake3 while I was burning, but ICQ, MP3s, AT Forums , anything like that is fine.

I have done around 60CD's and I surf, play DiabloII, Scan and print 3.2Meg files....ect and have no problems with my burns.
