cd burning with xp home

I've been burning cd's with no problem running win 98 se and then I upgrade to xp home edition and I can't get one burned. the only thing I have changed is the OS. I have a 1100 mhz amd athlon, 786 mb sdram, memorex 52 x 24 cdrw. It keeps telling me to put a blank cd in the drive. I've tried like three or four different kinds of cd-r's. Any suggestions. Memorex is perplexed also. Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Mike

Did you disable the MS built-in burning sh!t ??

And as someone else suggested have you tested a normal CD in the drive? Audio CD? Other (already recorded) CDR? CDRW?
