there is a post in hot deals for a 24x burner and the topic of being able to burn a whole cd came up. this is all news to me!! i thought 12x meant 12x. i guess at the outer or inner edge, it is different.

QUESTION: can you make it burn all the same?? if so how?

yo kill...all that engineering mumbo confused the hell out of me. :confused::)

the laser actually has a speed??
i thought it went up and down (from inside to out) along the cd and that was it.

ok so...obviously at a constant speed, the outer rim of a cd is going faster. the cav adjusts the speed so that it goes slower on the outside or it makes the inside go faster??

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

can you please translate?? sorry for the ignorance!

Let's say a disc drive is branded "12x".
If the drive is CAV, the read speed depends on the position that's being read. Near the middle of the disc it'll read slower, faster at the edges. Likely you'll find it actually reading "12x" only at the far edges.
If the drive is CLV, the read speed is "12x" regardless of the position being read. The disc's rotation speed is adjusted so that data is always passing the laser at "12x".
