CD burning question

I'm sure this has been asked about a million times before, but here goes. I have a Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 (IDE) and Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.05. Whenever I make a data CD, it cannot be read on my regular CD-ROM drive, which is actually a DVD-ROM drive, the Toshiba SD-M1402. The CD works fine when I read it from the burner. The thing is, I've burned stuff before with almost this exact setup, and I know my DVD drive is capable of reading burned CDs. The last time I successfully used my burner was a couple of months ago, so something must have changed since then. Any ideas?

What media are you using? The media with a blue tint on the record side seem to work better with older drives. Also cutting back your burn speed to 4x may help. The silvery looking media that sort of looks like CD-RW disks (as well as actual CD-RW) disks don't seem to read well at all on older drives.

Are you sure that you are using "Easy CD Creator" and not the somtimes-packaged "DirectCD". If you are using DirectCD instead, then sometimes you cannot read the burned CDs on other drives than the writer if you do not explicitly tell it to do something with the UDF files and reader on eject.

Check CD Information under the CD menu to make sure that the session containing the data you just wrote is finalized. CD-ROM drives cannot read data from a session that is not finalized.
