i've burned 3 mp3s into CDs (using nero) and none of them are working when i stick them into a CD player. it sounds like a bunch of "scratching." they don't even work on my computer. i tried using different CDs, to make sure that i don't have sh!tty CDs and still no luck. what's the deal?

-i'm burning at 24x using a lite-on (i'm pretty sure it has buffer underrun protection)
-i made sure to burn an audio cd and not a data cd.
-i tried burning at 16x once, but i still got a crappy cd

argggggghhhhh!!!!

Try burning another format. (Mp3, or VCD maybe) just to make sure your burner hasn't crapped out. And did you try different CD Players for the Audio CD's?

Like they said above, try burning a data cd or something and see if that works. If it does, try burning an audio cd using a different blank cd from the ones you are using now.

I have the same burner as you (24x Lite-ON), I burn mine at 24x all the time for regular audio CD's. Haven't had a problem. The only time I actually have problem burning an audio CD is because the MP3 uses VBR encoding (variable bit rate) or 160 bit rate. For some strange reason, the 160 bit rate get screwed up when burning to audio CD using Nero. And yes, I get the same exact noise as you described when it screws up with the VBR encoding or the 160 bit rate encoding. The high pitch screeching noise.

Damn, that sucks. If you do a mp3 -> wav conversion does it work?

Not sure, never tried it. I think 160 bitrate and VBR uses special software when encoding to MP3, and that's the problem. As when you burn with Nero, mp3 are converted to wav on the fly before being burned to the actual CD. Maybe he has the same problem.

Nope. Burn VBR MP3s to audio cd all the time using Nero and no problems here.
I'm guessing there's some sort of software error. Maybe try reinstalling Nero and the ASPI drivers... I dunno.

The RIAA has caught on to you and will show up in the middle of the night to take you away, when you least expect it.

What brand of CD-R are you using? In my experiance, I sometimes find that some of the bottom-of-the-line discs don't work in CD players. I don't know why that is exactly, but thats jus my experiance.

While we're on the subject of fvcking up CD's, I got a question. I like to backup all of my mp3's to CD-R's or DVD-R's, but it seems that every time I burn a disc at least one of the files will become corrupt. Does it do this to anyone else, or is it just me?

edit: and it's not just my burner, I've used several different burners and I've had this problem on each one. Am I doing something wrong, or is that just part of the game of cd burning?

I know what you need, and why, but I can't rember it off the top of my head.
The file length header gets messed up, and makes it decode improperly to wav.
