cd burning problems

my dvd and cd burner seems to not be able to burn CD-R/RW. at first i thought it was just CD-RWs that were in question but just now i tried burning a CD-R and it won't work.

i have no problems burning DVD-Rs on my DVD burner though.

anybody knows what the problem may be?

everytime i do try to burn a CD-R/RW, nero shows something about SCSI drive aborted or something like that.

and i just noticed that during the boot up when it detects my drives it also says something like PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL 80 CONDUCTOR UNSTABLE...

Well you haven't provided relevant information like how you have the devices cabled. Normally people wouldn't have their two optical drives on the primary IDE port, and if not, then that would be the obvious reason. And if you do have them both on the same cable, then the wiring for the end connector may have been damaged, so the drive on the middle connector still works; or alternately the middle connector may not be making good contact (the wire can still be continuous through to the end connector, but the pins connecting to the middle plug might be loose).

actually my DVD burner is on secondary master, and CD burner is on secondary slave.
my 2 HD's are on primary. and i have a third HD using a IDE to USB cable. i just stated the "PRIMARY IDE CHANNEL 80 CONDUCTOR UNSTABLE" because i never noticed it prior to today, not sure if it's even relevant to the burner situation

i do have them on the same cable, the DVD drive is the one on the end connector, my CD is on the middle, i can burn DVD's on my DVD drive but i can't burn CDs on it nor on the CD burner.

if the cable is the problem, then i'm still puzzled as to why the DVD burner will burn DVDs still.

Well there's a small chance that it's causing performance problems which result in the burner not receiving data properly. I'd replace that cable regardless. Might also be worth swapping out the secondary cable or at least reseating it, or swapping the DVD and CDRW drives between master and slave.

I assume that it happens no matter what drive you're using as the source, and you're not using a temporary folder which Nero is copying the data to first which would mean the real source is always that drive. Even though the DVD burner works okay, there could be some interaction between those points and the CDRW drive which don't affect the DVD drive.

Google also turns up quite a few results regarding nero and "SCSI command aborted".

Getting the exact error message is always a good idea when trying to troubleshoot a problem.

[Edit] Oh you can't even burn CD's on the DVD drive. That's odd.

yeah that's the weird part, i can burn DVD videos, and data on to DVD discs with the DVD burner, but it won't burn data onto CDs. i just used my dad's IDE cable and still having the same problem. i will google for that error message and see if anybody else have similar problems and managed to fix it.

i looked up a thread online about the scsci command aborted message, and somebody said he back rolled from his current ide driver (which i believe he said was an nvidia) to microsofts and it worked. i thought i'd do the same only i would rather update to a newer version. seems to work now. thanks for the heads up.
