CD Burning Problem

I have an older HP 4x CD burner. The other night, I was copying an 80 minute disk, and around 80% through, the whole computer locked up. Now, whenever I try to burn any type of disk, the computer locks up on me. Sometimes after only 5%, sometimes later on. Is my burner incompatible with 80 minute disks, and I broke it when I tried, or could there be something else going on?

I use Nero 5.5.6.4 in Windows XP.

Thanks!!!

What model number is the drive? I used to have a HP 4x burner and I know it worked just fine with 80minute disks. I belive the model number was 8110i.

nero should probably tell you if something was wrong. is your drive in the list of supported burners? have you tried a 74 min (they dont make em like they used to) in it?

All I have been trying lately are 74 minute disks. I'm not sure of the model number of the drive...

I also have an external HP M820 burner that connects through SCSI. Also 4x. Surprise surprise, it also does the exact same thing. I used to use this burner all the time with no problems.

I think you said it when you said I have an older HP 4x CD burner

You could try installing the Nero and reinstalling it. Go to their site and upgrade before reinstalling. If that doesn't do it I'd say it's the drive. I'd say it's the drive anyway, but at least you can try something that doesn't cost anything first and feel better about it!
