CD burning - help please

Hi All,

I have downloaded a knoppix iso File and need to create a bootable cd. Apparently the file must be extracted or broken apart into individual files and folders before going onto the cd.

How is this done?

I have nero oem with all 6 patches for xp_sp2 and have managed to burn the whole knoppix iso file twice.

thanks,

Okay. As I understand it I am supposed to end up with a bootable disc which has files that are read at bootup to start the installation with folders full of other files need to complete the install.

The iso I downloaded is one file only and when I burn it to a cd it stays as one file with the iso extension. When I try booting from the cd on my dell 2400 pc with the boot order floppy, cd, hd it boots right into windows after checking the cd rom drive and not finding what it needs to start a boot there.

jackschmittusa - I have tried with my dell 600m laptop with both nero express (apparently different from nero oem so I was unable to follow your instructions) and nero 5.5( followed your instructions and apparently can only burn the iso "image" to the hd , the cd-rw does not appear in the recorder list - thanks for trying - there must still be something I don't understand.

What next?

ive never used nero for images, i reccomend "Alcohol 120%" i think their website is like alcoholsoft.com or something....but you cant just burn the image file...and image is everything thats on a disc stored as a file on your computer, so you have to have a program such as alcohol or nero that can read images and burn them out as physical CDs

OK then, Nero Express.

Open NE, choose "Disk image or saved project", in next window (at bottom) got to "files of type", choose "image files" (next to last entry), then point it to the .iso file and click "open", then burn.

Thanks shadowblade. Alcohol 120 did the job. knoppix is up and running. Very interesting stuff. good for diagnostics at least. I don't know whether i'll use it enough to become a convert . Nice to know there are workable alternatives to MS stuff.
