cd burner wont close

i accidentally shut down my computer without closing the burner and now the tray is permanently out. when i try to close it it goes in about half and inch and then gets jammed . is it broken permanently? it is an ned 7800. also it no longer appears to be recognized by my software (puppy linux)
 
Is it the cogs inside that jam up? Take a flashlight and look in there to see what's causing the obstruction.

Under warranty by any chance?
 
You will have to disassemble it. Front and top have to come off. Watch out for fragile parts if you do it. What you will see inside is cheap junk. It may very well be broken, but you may get lucky. But don't try to do it without disassembling it. When you look inside you will see why.
