My system:
1.4 ghz tbird
256mb ram
liteon 24x burner

My problem:
I'm trying to burn some mp3s onto a cd as an audio cd, meaning it should automatically change the mp3s into the cd audio format, right? Well I use nero 5.5, and when I started burning, it just stayed at 2%. It says burn process started and "lead in" but just stays there. It says that it's on the second track. My HDD indicator and CDR indicators both have a solid orange indicator, meaning it's burning. I left it for 30 mins and it just stays there, so I cancel and it still says it's busy so I restart the computer to get the cd out. When I read the cd, it says it has all the audio tracks, but each one is only 44kb. What could be the problem? I tried this 2 times already and got the same thing both times.

If it was me, I'd uninstall it, then install it. Did the 5.5 come with the burner? If so go to Nero and download to 5.7.2 or whatever the latest is. I've been using Nero for awhile and no Probs. cept it takes FOREVER to make a VCD!

Just for laughs try unchecking DMA access for the burner, reboot and try again -- select 'test burn only' if you don't want to waste another disk.

Yeah, I'll reinstall it...

Isn't it bad to disble DMA? Not that I know what effect it has on burning....

Ok, I reinstalled it, and it's still doing that. It does that for any audio file, being written into an audio cd. Doesn't matter if it's mp3 or wav. It doesn't do the same thing with file cds...

What kind of CD's are you using? Are you using certified 24x cd's? That might be your problem.

Also, have you tried burning anything else besides music? Is this a new burner? Have you made any changes to your system recently? Any new drives or changes to IDE configurations?

Take the "uncheck DMA" suggestion. My Plextor 12/10/32 would lock up at 2-3% every time until I set the transfer mode to PIO. Now I can burn anything with absolutely no problems and no noticeable lack of performance.
