CD Burner Errors

I am tryng to download some files onto a CD, using the built-in Windows XP CD burning utility. After its done, I put the CD back into the drive, but it comes up as a blank CD. Wen I look at the bottom of the CD however, I can see where the files were burned. I tried using Nero and got the same problem. I made sure that I have no viruses or other crap like that causing the problem. Any suggestions?
