CD Burner dead?

I am trying to write a CD and everytime I get an error in Nero telling me that it cannot fill the buffer or something like that. Is my burner dead? Oh yeah, also says SCSI/IDE error.
 
Some info on your setup would be helpful. Also, are you burning on the fly, from the hard drive, etc.
Lots of this type of stuff can make all of the difference.
