I want a good one, does anyone still do tests on these and benchmark comparisons?

I know most are upto 52 - 52 - 42 for Read, Writes, and Re-write, but whats the best value of them all?

You will really have to look if you want a DVD writer (tests on CD writers will likely be old, but the DVD writer tests include CD writing) that uses Mt. Rainer.

Be sure to check out Plextor if you are really looking for the best. And I like my MSI X48 (current model is X52).

Plextor is overpriced and overrated. A $25 Lite-On 52X is probably your best bet. It can read anything and is usually the fastest and most media friendly.

I've got three Lite-ons and they are wonderful.

CDR = LiteOn
DVD = Not LiteOn
Er, in both cases, Lite-Ons perform next to Plextors on reading (for copy protected CDs, often better!). LiteOns have a great set of usable features, with a short life compared to others as a trade off (I kind of accept that my lovely 812s, put under the kind of us I do with it now, will be in the trash within 2 years or so 🙂). That's generally why I only recommend Lite-On for CD work, especially games and audio, but nEC and Pioneer for general use.

I love my LiteOn LTR52246S. I love it so much, I took it out of my old system and put it on my new one just for CD burning and audio ripping purposes. It loves ALL media. I haven't met one yet that it can't burn without fail, and believe me, I've searched the bottom of the barrel. By the way, did I mention it was quiet? I can barely hear the tray open and close!

Yeah... Try a Plextor Premium. It can overburn (on good media) almost 1GB on a 700MB CD-R

A gig on a CD? wow...
What media is considered good media?

I usually use memorex, I've only had good experience with their blak media 50 pack spools.
