CD burner and hard drive on same IDE channel?

I recently got a dvd burner so I put my DVD-rom and my DVD-RW on one ide cable. Then I put my hard drive and my cd burner on the other ide cable. I am now getting a lot of disc write errors when burning cds with my cd burner. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware conflict. Does anyone know if it is OK to put a hard drive and a cd burner on the same ide cable? Are there any know issues about that?

Thanks for any help.

You should keep the IDE and ATAPI stuff on their own channels. If necessary, buy an ATA controller card and put your hard drive on it. That is the source of your problems.

I've had my CD-RW on the same IDE cable as my hard drive for the last 4 or 5 years. Not a single problem.

Put the DVD and HD on the same cable, and DVDRW and CDRW on the other cable. That way when you copy a DVD or burn a CD, it will be from one controller to the other, instead of down the cable, to memory, then back up the same cable.. you get the idea.

Thanks for everyones help.

If I put the dvd-rom and HD on the same channel, do you think I will still get errors when I rip a dvd to the HD? That's one of my main reasons for even keeping the dvd rom is so I can rip my dvds to my HD with it. Its faster than my dvd-rw and it prolongs my dvd-rws life if I use it less.
