I have a 4x/4x/24/ Hewett Packard 8200 Series CD-R. I use the Nero program and burn them into Fuji CD's.

I've been using the burner and program for about 2 years now and it has served me well till this point. Recently however, I've experienced problems.
Last night I copied some audio music files and burned them onto the CD. It says 'Burn successful complete'. But when I tried listening to it on the computer or discman, I hear this clicking noise coming from the machine and no sounds of music. The funny thing is, when I put it in my laser disc player, the CD plays and it works fine. I tried to burn another copy but had the same results.

What is wrong? Is the burner no longer good? Is it the CD's? If so, how come they worked before? Why did it work in the LD but not anything else? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

PS- Not sure if this matters but I'm running Windows 2000.

Probably a dumb question but did you burn them as music (audio) files? I was dumb enough to try and burn them as data and not as music (audio).

Yeah... I burned them into audio files.

No, I haven't cleaned the drive since I bought it, which is like 2 years ago. How do you clean the drive?

it is most likely the media.. ive had that happen to me. (it works on one cdplayer but not the other) sometimes new batch of media will not work or what not. weird. it could also be the speed at which you are recording the media, try something at 2x/1x then you will definately know its the media. sounds like its the media tho . good luck.

Sounds like the same problem my mom had and it was the media. It just wasn't good enough to work in her stereo for some reason. Different media fixed the problem.

Nero gave me the same problem and I finally decided that it does it on music CDs that have PC programs on them as well. Quite annoying really, but using the CD copy function for CDr's and Music CDs that have PC apps on them doesn't seem to work. Windows won't recognize the CD and ejects it, and the car stereo has no luck either. Might be the issue?

Yeah...my first thought was the media or the brand of blank CD's I used. But I'm using FUJI's which is the Taiyo Yuden dye, made in Japan. They are pretty good CD's which you can't see through like the cheap ones and i've used them before with no problems. So I;m ruling that problem out.

What else could it be? Now I'm suspecting the burner but if it says burn successful, then could it be the laser be weakining or is that impossible?!

I am in a simialar situation. I also have a HP 4x4x24 8200 (have had for almost 4 years) series cd-writer and I use Nero under Windows 2000. Sometimes after burning data and receiving the 'Burn Successful' message I will be unable to read the disc in either one of my cd-rom drives. On one occasion, I burned the exact same files three times and didn't get a disc I could read until the third atempt.
