cd/bios ?????

Gday people, I am trying to install Linux on my system, the cd supplied is bootable and will boot off my old pent200 comp, but cant get it to boot off my new comp - AMD1.2G Abit KT7A. I want the o/s on my new comp as I have the space for it.
Do you think this could be bios related.
The mobo has the orig bios on it, I've never flashed bios before, and I'm not too keen to do it either, (but if I have to ......).
Pls let me know what u think, getting a boot floppy as a remedy to booting off Cd is not happening for me either, as the Linux link to a ready made boot floppy always goes 404 on me.
Tks alot.

Make sure that your boot order has the CD ahead of the HDD ... preferably in the following order: floppy, CD, HDD

These settings are in your bios.

Why bother with booting off the CD? Just set it up as dual-boot... Then both can live on the harddrive and you can pick which you're gonna use when you bootup.

p.s. >> Turn on your profiles!

okay, tks for the reply
I have prev reset my boot sequence in bios to cd first-2nd and 3rd with boot from other device disabled but it will not boot from the cd.
I already have a dual boot, win98 n win2k
I havent even got linux on my sys yet, and this is what I'm trying to achieve.
If I can get it installed I think I will hv to boot from floppy rather than LinuxLoader, according to what I hv read.
Why wont bootable cds do what they are supposed to do on my sys??.
As I recall, when I installed win2k, I had to do it from Win95, cos it wouldnt boot off cd.
Any ideas apprec.
Tks M.

😕
yeh, tks zzzzzz tried that also to no avail.
I figure its gotta be in the motherboard or bios, but have u heard of this before?
Its a bit frustrating really, that I cant pinpoint the pbm.
Rgds.
