CD Audio with External USB Drive??

Is it possible for me to play an Audio CD with my external USB/Firewire CDROM drive?? Obviously it has not audio out to the sound card since it is an external drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I am aware of the headphones/line out possibility.... but I am looking for another option. It does not have RCA out either. I am looking for a player that reads the digital information and then sends it to the sound card, instead of direct from the cd player to the soundcard like in the past. I know macintosh is doing all their CD Audio this way now and am looking for something similar with windows. This is for a very specific task.

Starting with Mac OS 9.0 there is a new way of playing CD audio -- digitally. Pure digital data is read from the CD, played through the Sound Manager as a PCM (Pulse Code Modulation -- standard uncompressed audio) data stream, and then sent out to the speakers (where your ears require that it be converted back to an analog signal).

Anyone know of a player that decodes the audio itself instead of just sending a signal directly from the unit to the soundcard???

Music CDs are essentially analog. PCM is digital. DVD movies use PCM and as such, DVD players, even external, will send the embedded digital audio into a PC's sound system. But I find no audio CD player that can do that. It would require A to D conversion. PCM is used in home video cameras and video processing. Mac is heavy into that. You may have to use a Mac for your special purpose, other wise port the analog sound via the line out ports on the external drive to the sound card's line in port.
