CD Audio on DVD+/-R?

Is it possible to burn Mp3s or WAV files to CD quality 16-bit 44.1Khz audio on a DVD+/-R disc for use in a standalone DVD player? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've never owned a DVD burner before and am going to buy one this week...

Then no, you're screwed. You should be able to author a DVD with just audio, but I have no idea how.
...why not use, um, CDs?

No, there's no equivelant of CD-Audio for DVDs*. Closest you'll get is loading the music you want to into a MPEG2 compression program and setting the audio to PCM. It'll take forever to do though. Your 1000000000% better off to burn 320kbps CBR MP3s onto a DVD and use that.

*Technically, DVD-Audio would be the equivelant, but you can't make a DVD-Audio disc on your own so it's a moot point.

I guess nobody's actually tried this before, because it is possible with Ulead, at least...

"Burn Music to DVDs for Massive Music Mixes
Ulead® Burn. Now? lets you burn 6 hours of CD-quality songs or 45 hours of Dolby® Digital or MP3 songs to one DVD disc. Double Layer burning drives will even allow you twice that much. Make the best music mix you've ever compiled! Or, use the re-edit tool to add more songs as you go."

Now I wonder if it'll work with Nero.

Thanks me! =)
