cd accessing causes sound to stutter

When im listening to an mp3, and i put in a cd and autorun executes, the sound stutters. I have noticed the same problem in GTA3 when my comp acesses the cd. Both my drives DVD and CDRW are on the same channel, and are running dma mode2. I have an athloncp 1700, msi kt4vl, gf3, lite on dvd, turtle beach santa cruz . . .

any ideas??
