More like an increase of gun fights. There are a hell of a lot of people who have no fucking business even owning a gun let alone being able to have a CCW.

Eh, people say that but it just hasn't happened. The threats of CCW turning mainstreet into the OK Corral just have never held true.

It should be pointed out that no where in the article does it say that the victim broke the other mans window. It states that the victim knocked on the mans window and then proceeded to pull him out of the car. Maybe the man with the gun opened his window or opened his door. One person in this thread mis spoke saying that the victim broke the mans window and now everyone is repeating it.

Go back to the article and read the word after "knocked" again. You will see the word "out". Combined they form the phrase "knocked out".

Power of suggestion is a weird thing. After zylander posted that, I went back and read it again, and I read it as "knocked on." Now I see that it says knocked out. Funny how that happens.

You probably need it.

Let's see who shouldn't own a gun..well people prone to violence, drug addicts and alchies, careless individuals, manic depressives, people who are bipolar to name a few.

Don't forget retards!

No, what's that have to do with what I posted? I was replying to a post where a knucklehead said everybody should have a CCW and I disagreed. I never said that some wouldn't be OK to have a permit

I did the same thing, and wrote a post equivalent to yours on the first page of the thread.

I think the reason for the problem is that someone outside a car can't "knock out" a window. He can "knock in" a window or "kick in" a window, but "knock out" just isn't possible. Thus, a quick reading of the article causes your brain to see "knock" followed by a short "o" word - and your brain fills in the common sense interpretation. The person who wrote the original article needs to be more careful.

I almost did the same thing, luckily several people had already noted the difference, so I was careful to catch it. That tiny difference changes the whole scenario, "knocking on" his window makes the victims reaction questionable, "knocking out" his window makes his reaction much more understandable.

Bias is often times unintentional but paints a picture in the readers mind to subtly influence their perception. No matter. This was a good shoot. Highly doubtful charges will be sought. This has nothing to do with castle doctrines extending to ones vehicle - this is staighr self defense. Many states also prevent any civil suit to be filed. Don't know about MI.

While I do not excuse the actions here is any way, I must disagree with the first statement absolutely. Bad manners is the BEST excuse to resort to violence.

And if you happen to think I'm anti-gun rights, you'd be mistaken. I just think that taking responsibility for your actions begins with being courteous in the first place. In particular when you're piloting 2 tons of steel on the road at 100 feet per second.

What? You don't resort to violence because someone is an asshole, jerk, dumbass whatever. You resort to violence to stop someone from assaulting you physically. I don't care if the shooter called the assaulter's mother a whore who only sleeps with white guys, the guy that got shot is ultimately the one in the wrong.

Naturally, the NRA will offer this as an example of how handguns help law-abiding citizens protect themselves.

But did it occur to anybody to ask: When the soon-to-be victim knocked on the window of the soon-to-be shooter, why on earth did the shooter open the window or door?

No way in hell would anyone be able to pull ME out of my car: My doors would be locked and my windows should be closed. And one fewer person would be in critical condition in a hospital with gunshot wounds.

But, hey, the NRA will still count this as "successful self-defense."

Read the article and stop being selective. It says the guy that got shot knocked OUT the window. Motherfucker, you knock out my window I'll fucking kill you.*

*Not directed at anyone here, but hypothetical person knocking out my car window.
